Physical, Mental and Spiritual Balance for Individuals, Groups or Communities.

Belief & Faith

What is Belief?

Belief: (Noun)

  • An acceptance that something exists or is true, especially one without proof.
  • Trust, faith or confidence in something/someone.

Belief can change our minds and as a result, our bodies. We are simply capable of more with belief. And controlling what we think or believe is one important way we can look after our mental health.

Can you believe everything someone tells you?

What we choose to believe will determine the person we become.

Our brains receive information through our senses and store the memory as beliefs. Beliefs help us make decisions. Believing you can do something can make a difference.  Believing you can't can also change your outcome.

What is Faith?

Faith: (Noun)

  • complete trust or confidence in someone or something.

Faith and belief are often used to mean the same thing but there is a slight difference that sets them apart.  Belief is thinking something is true but

Faith is knowing it is true.

Faith starts with belief and makes it stronger, more certain

and changes it into a spiritual quality.

The example in the workbook compares how different it feels saying,

“I believe the sun will come up tomorrow”

OR “I know the sun will come up tomorrow”.

How does Belief help us?

We build better Self-Awareness and are more able to Manage Stress and our Emotions.

  • Self-awareness: This helps us learn to pay attention to our thoughts and feelings.

  • Stress management: This helps us slow down and focus in a calm way.

  • Emotional regulation: This helps us learn to think about our emotions and our environment.  To respond instead of reacting when we feel uncomfortable.

  • All of these contribute to our well-being, helping us to achieve more, deal with difficult situations better, and have more confidence to get involved.  We can become more aware of others feelings and contribute towards better relationships.
